Long Time, No Blog
Ya know, if you don't "blog" on your blog, there's no use in having a blog. While I have been "blog-less" I have been busy spending time with friends and knitting. I have designed, knit and felted a wallet for a gf (I am very proud of it), as well as knitting and felting two bags/purses. I promise to put in pics of my new creations as soon as possible. I also need to borrow back the wallet so I can post a shot of it
I have learned to knit socks, which makes me a very happy camper! You know, unchartered territory and all of that. I'm now on pair number 3. Cascade Fixation makes fabulous socks!!!!
Right now I am working on yet another bag. This one is knit from strips of fabric from my stash, mixed with intervals of eyelash, in cheery colored stripes.
I promise to post in a more timely manner from now on.

"Oh, It's 'StitchCraft'"
Just got done watching Oxygen's new program called "StitchCraft," hosted by Lily Chin. Fast-paced show, loaded with ideas; sure to get the ideas flowing. I'm really in withdrawal, though, from "Knitty Gritty," which is in reruns for the next little bit on the DIY network. Vickie Howell really rocks the knitting world, and I cannot believe how much I have learned from watching her show.
I don't have pictures ready for the blog yet, but WIPs include cupcake kid hats, a baby sweater, and my masterpiece--a knit tote featuring green and purple geckos! I knit for someone who works in an insurance company, and we all know the popularity of the gecko in the world of insurance.
We just got a knit, crochet, and quilt store in town. I'm so excited to be able to talk about my "LYS" along with everyone. Our shop is very cool, has very reasonable prices, and the owner is a man who quilts and crochets. Talk about coolness!!!
That's all for now--I hear the geckos calling my name.

Not Born or Bred in the South
This blog is a compilation of experiences and observations associated with living in general, and living in the South in particular. Some may find it more of an outlet for my most current "rant." My soapbox has deep grooves in it from lecturing to my family and friends, so I've decided to expand my audience.
This weekend I spent the day with my mom, who was born and bred in England. We went shopping (chez Wallez--the "uptown" name for a Wal-Mart superstore), and we went to a local cafe for a snack. As luck would have it, my mother uttered those dreaded words--"Do you have hot tea?" This sends chills down my spine and immediately causes goosebumps to rise on my arms because I know if there is no affirmative response, she will say, "Well, do you have hot water???"
As you may have heard, in the South "sweet tea" is considered a food group. People do not enter a restaurant and ask for a glass of "iced tea;" no, they come in and simply say "sweet tea." Needless to say, a request for "hot tea" is a little out of the ordinary, and has been met with a variety of reactions and results. I told my mother "please be good, no matter what happens." She smiled and waited. As luck would have it, as the waitress headed for the kitchen, she turned and smiled and asked, "Hon, do you want that hot tea sweet?" I repeated my urging "be good." Our waitress emerges a moment later, carrying a cup of hot liquid. But,
There was no string
There was no tag
On top there floated no little bag
What we received was tea taken from the iced tea pitcher and placed in the microwave oven; hence, producing "hot tea." But, saints be praised, it was not "sweet tea."
